CoR EDUC Commission: Better tailored regional innovation programmes needed to build "smart regions"

What should be the role of research and innovation in taking steps towards "Smart regions"? How to make this transformation happen in practice and through which instruments and projects? This was the focus of debate during a conference entitled "Pioneering Europe 2020 Smart Regions" organised on the occasion of the meeting of the Committee of the Regions' commission for Education, Youth, Culture and Research (EDUC) in Espoo (Finland) on 25–26 April.

Educated internationals in Helsinki region are facing challenges to settle in comparing to those who live in Turku, Tallinn, Tartu and Stockholm-Uppsala region according to an internationally conducted survey by the Expat-project.
