Tasks of Regional Council
The main operational tasks of Uusimaa Regional Council are regional development, regional land use planning and international cooperation.
Regional Development
The Council is responsible for the preparation of the Regional Strategic Plan stating long-term development goals and development strategies. The time horizon of the regional plan is 25-30 years and it is updated every four years.
The Strategic Plan is the basic framework for the more detailed Regional Programme which outlines measures and action lines for the program period.
Finally, the associated Implementation Plan guides the development of the next 3-5 years, identifying projects, the key actors and funding needed.
Regional Land Use Planning
The Council draws up a Regional Land Use Plan, which is a general and long-term spatial plan for community development in the region.
The member municipalities develop local and more detailed spatial plans in accordance with the Regional Land Use Plan.
International Cooperation
The aim of international partnerships and cooperation is to strengthen regional development. Focus has been put on the Baltic Sea Region as a growth centre in northern Europe. Prioritized areas of cooperation include public services, innovation policy, business development, urban development and education.
