The Helsinki-Uusimaa Region is at the heart of Northern Europe and at the Baltic Sea. Including the capital city of Helsinki, it has 1.8 million inhabitants, which is about a third of the entire population of Finland.

Finnish circular economy solutions showcased at World Circular Economy Forum
Finland, a pioneer in circular economy, will be a prominent participant in the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) organised in April. Finland will showcase new circular economy innovations and cooperation models at the Forum. The Helsinki-Uusimaa Circular Valley is also participating in the Circular Economy Super Week.

New study: up to €40 million business opportunity in concrete waste
VTT was commissioned by the Helsinki-Uusimaa Circular Valley to investigate the material flows and business opportunities of construction and demolition in Helsinki-Uusimaa. The results show that the generation of construction waste is strongly concentrated in the metropolitan area.

Helsinki-Uusimaa RDI roadmap steps to become European forerunner in innovation
Helsinki-Uusimaa has set a goal to become the most innovative region in Europe by 2030. Currently, nearly 50 per cent of the research and development expenses in Finland can be found in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region and research, development, and innovation activities (RDI) make up about 3,9 per cent of the regional gross domestic product. The aim is to increase these investments to five percent of the regional gross domestic product.

Municipalities at the forefront of climate change mitigation in Helsinki-Uusimaa
The Towards Carbon Neutral Municipalities (Hinku) network brings together municipalities, businesses, citizens and experts to create and carry out solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In December 2023, the network published its first annual report.
